The objective was to create a compact machine capable of building the highest possible stack of crates within a limited time while meeting strict physical, safety, and operational constraints. Structural deformation, frame instability, and friction in moving components had to be solved through reinforcement, added supports, and geometry changes. We first analysed the functional requirements and developed multiple concept directions, each solving the stacking problem in a different way. After evaluating the concepts on stability, simplicity, and performance, we selected the concept that kept the crate stack at a constant height, therefore improving stability during motion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This systematic comparison of alternatives helped me understand how engineering decisions are guided by measurable criteria rather than intuition alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"758\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/demilin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Screenshot-2026-02-12-at-20.09.51.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-79\" srcset=\"https:\/\/demilin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Screenshot-2026-02-12-at-20.09.51.png 758w, https:\/\/demilin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Screenshot-2026-02-12-at-20.09.51-300x213.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 758px) 100vw, 758px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Flipper mechanism to hold the crates.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Performance &amp; Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Testing showed that the machine did not always perform exactly as expected. This highlighted how factors such as the way the system was operated, the alignment of the structure, and mechanical limitations all influence the final performance.
